Basic Electrician Course

Course Details

This is a starting point for joining the industry as an electricians mate/improver.

Who is it suitable for?

This is the ideal course for those who have no experience of the industry but would like to either change career or train to become an electrician. Or maybe your a plumber, kitchen/bathroom fitter, roofer or carpenter and would like to up skill and offer your customers this additional service instead of employing other trades.

•  A grade 4 or grade C in English and Mathematics is preferable although this is not essential

What the course covers

The Basic Electrician Course is carried out at the candidate’s pace and can be completed in approximately 32 weeks.

•  2365 Level 2 Electrical Installation

•  2382 18th Edition Full Course

•  2393-10 Building Regulations

•  2391-50 Initial Verification

Who is it for?

This suite of City & Guilds qualifications are targeted at students who have no previous electrical knowledge although this is also a fantastic starting point if you have recently joined the industry with no previous experience.

Assessment and exams


  • 2365-02

    • 201 Health & safety in building services engineering (practical/theory). Includes a multi-choice exam and practical assessment. 

    • 202 Principles of Electrical Science (mostly theory-based). Includes a C&G online multiple-choice exam.

    • 203 Electrical Installations Technology (mostly theory-based). Includes a C&G online multiple-choice exam.

    • 204 Installation of wiring systems and enclosures (practical/theory). Includes a practical assignment and additional questions. 

    • 210 Communicate with others within Building Services Engineering (practical/theory). Includes a C&G online multi-choice exam. 

  • 2382-18

    • It is assessed through a C&G online multiple-choice exam (open book).​

  • 2393-10

    • ​Consists of a 40 minute online exam which is assessed through C&G. 

  • 2391-50

    • Initial Verification of Electrical Installations multiple-choice online exam

    • Initial Verification of Electrical Installations practical assignment

Hands on training for success

​All Electrical Academy course trainers have decades of teaching experience. Your assessor will work with you to ensure you meet the relevant C&G requirements to complete the course.

  • City and Guilds Level 2 course book

  • BS7671 On Site Guide

  • IET guide to Part P of the Building Regulations

  • NICEIC Electrical Installer’s Guide to the Building Regulations

  • IET Guidance Note 3

  • Calculator

  • You must bring photographic ID such as a passport or driving license with you in order to sit the assessments on this course.

  • PPE for the workshop
